Health and Exercise Department: “Where Fitness Lives”
I hope that the academic year is moving along nicely for all HES majors. As many of you already know, the Department of Health and Exercise Science strives for excellence and distinction in teaching, scholarship, and professional service. The faculty believe that a serious and continuing commitment to scholarship complements and enriches teaching and learning. It seems that is the case for HES majors as well. For years it was obvious to department members that HES majors were actively engaged in all areas of academics, but now it is becoming obvious to others around campus as well. As you will see further in the newsletter, with guidance (or pressure) from faculty, many of you have gotten engaged in the lab, community, and professional organizations, which in turn, have led to publications and awards. Engaging in professional development or research has led to great things and we all hope to continue to see more highlights about TCNJ HES majors in future newsletters.
Over the past decade the demand for HES programs has increased. The need to hire additional faculty and staff was a priority and the department was fortunate to welcome two new program members this fall. Dr. Laura Bruno was hired as a full-time Health & Physical Education Teaching faculty member and Mr. Noah Beller is currently serving as the Health & Exercise Science Internship Coordinator. Dr. Bruno will be teaching a variety of health and physical education content and pedagogical courses. Mr. Beller has been charged with creating additional internship site agreements in order to serve a wider range of HES professions. It is an exciting time for HES.
