Congratulations to the Health & Physical Education Teaching majors who had “Research Work” submissions published in the Journal of Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (JOPERD) during 2015. The HES program takes great pride in having majors get involved in the profession in a variety of ways, but having written work published is a hard feat and HPET majors are making it look easy. With only nine monthly issues of the journal being printed during 2015, having five monthly issues showcasing TCNJ HPET majors submissions is amazing.
• Jessica Billitz: Goal orientation and intrinsic motivation for physical education: Does perceived competence matter? Nov 2015
• James Smith: What are students’ expectations of achievement in physical education? Aug 2015
• David Rondesko: What are elementary teachers’ experiences in teaching English language learners? July 2015
• Ryan Schmid: Can a multi-modal training program help to improve physical activity, physical performance, and perceived physical ability in obese children? April 2015
• Stephanie Marraffa: What is the effect of yoga compared to a physical education class on stress reactivity for sixth-grade students? Jan 2015
Additionally, JOPERD also has an “Issues” section that allows all Health, Physical Education, and Recreation professionals to provide responses to a pressing issue or topics in the field. Some our published TCNJ HPET majors include:
• Katie Steinberg and Jordan Downs each had responses that creatively addressed: What are key strategies/approaches to prevent using physical activity as punishment in teaching and coaching? April 2015,
• Michelle Cascio, Jessica Billitz, Erin Health, Andrew Velzy, Darius Griffin,Jr., Emmanuel Matlock, and Gina Caprara all provided well-crafted and poinient responses to: Should students with disabilities be graded similarly to students without disabilities in physical education. Feb 2015.
